Lynn Shelton, Sarah Polley, Lauren Greenfield, Lorene Scafaria, Alison Klayman, Valerie Faris, Julie Delpy, Tanya Wexler, Ry Russo-Young, Megan Griffiths, Amy Seimetz, Hannah Fidell, Julia Loktev, So Yong Kim, Andrea Arnold, Lynne Ramsay, Claire Denis, Agnes Varda, Chantal Akerman, Alison Bagnall
Seek them out. They make great films.
Let’s not forget: Amy Heckerling, Claudia Weill, Penelope Spheeris, Nancy Savoca, Jodie Foster, Barbra Streisand, Betty Thomas, Kathryn Bigelow, Nicole Holofcener, Elaine May, Kasi Lemmons, etc. etc. We can name a long list of female directors, and the most important thing is that you can’t compare them all to each other because EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE WOMEN, THEY ARE STILL QUITE DIFFERENT.
